Intaglio ring of Odysseus


A large 18th century neoclassical intaglio superbly carved with two nude men on the sea shore with a swan necked boat beached by them,the scene probably represents Diomedes, King of Argos and his close friend Odysseus. These scene is very finely engraved into an oval carnelian stone
The gem’s style is reminiscent of the gems produced for the Prince Poniatowski collection.
